The Great Contraption Race (GCR) is a fun, 2-person and 4-person team race starting at 9:00 AM on Saturday August 2, 2014 floating, paddling, kicking, sailing, and, or all the above in a floating contraption down the lower Niagara River from Lewiston, NY finishing in Youngstown, NY.

The Great Contraption Race (GCR) is a fun, 2-person and 4-person team race starting at 9:00 AM on Saturday August 2, 2014 floating down the lower Niagara River from Lewiston, NY finishing in Youngstown, NY.
The race occurs on floating amphibious contraptions designed and built by each team. The contraptions must be made from recycled materials, they must be able to float and the contraption can only be powered by human power, and or, a man made sail to float down the River.
The contraptions can also have wheels allowing it steer and roll on a slightly graded pitch into the Niagara River in Lewiston on its own (or with a push) from a starting gate supplied by GCR's race officials. The contraption must also be able to travel down the mighty Niagara River 6.2 miles (9.97km) to Youngstown, NY where the contraption must then be able to roll out of the river with its team crew's help, and then pushed or pulled .5 miles (.80km) to the finish line in Youngstown, NY's Veteran's Park.
Costumes and themed contraptions are highly recommended. Food and beverage will be supplied at the finish line where we will celebrate a fun-filled day in the incredible lower Niagara River Region with music and awards for team competitors and their support crews. This area is also open to spectators and visitors as well as the communities that make up the lower Niagara River Region.
There are 3 divisions of sponsored teams: corporate / military, collegiate and individuals.
Each Participant is required to raise a minimum of $150 -additional fundraising is encouraged and the top three fundraisers will receive awards.
Points are given for creativity, those that finish, and those that that don't, and you are timed from start to finish.
Proceeds from this great event are going to the very worthy, 'It Happened To Alexa Foundation.' The Alexa Foundation is a national charity based in Lewiston, NY that assists rape victims and their families. For more information about this worthy cause go
